Teamsters Support Federal Partnership Executive Order

Public Service A Priority in Obama Administration

The Teamsters Union praised President Barack Obama for establishing a new commitment on Wednesday enabling federal employees, through their labor organizations, to improve government processes that will enhance the quality of service to the public.

In signing the executive order, the President recognizes the valuable role unions should play in designing and implementing changes to make agencies more productive and effective in the way they operate. In 2001, a comparable executive order issued by President Bill Clinton had been summarily revoked by President George W. Bush as part of an eight-year anti-union effort.

Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa praised Obama for promoting the use of labor-management partnerships to drive performance improvement efforts.

“The labor movement is eager to begin the process of restoring America’s faith in public service,” Hoffa said.

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The Teamsters represent more than 220,000 workers in government and public service jobs.
