Teamsters Local 142 Holds Fourth Stewards Training
Indiana Local Leads By Example With Ongoing Skills Training
More than 40 stewards recently came together at their final training seminar of the year to give Teamsters Local 142 members the best representation possible.
Continuing to be one of the most proactive local unions for skills training, Local 142 hosted its fourth stewards training of 2009 in Gary, Indiana. The seminar was organized in conjunction with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Training and Development Department as part of its ongoing mission to expand and broaden training for stewards.
“It was great to see the stewards practice the training they received throughout the year,” said Harvey Jackson, Local 142 Stewards Council President. “They really want to make sure they are doing the best possible job in representing this local union.”
Participating stewards engaged in several workshops following their regular Stewards Council meeting and reviewed grievance case studies. Stewards then put their skills to the test with mock case presentations to management.
“The grievance case they worked on was very detailed and allowed for a full discussion on some of the issues that arise when presenting a case to an employer,” Jackson said. “I’m proud of our stewards for their attendance and participation in these vital trainings.”
Local 142, an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, will continue these and other member trainings next year.
