Teamsters Joint Council 25 Wants You for Boot Camp

Volunteer to Organize, Help Rebuild America's Middle Class

Teamsters throughout Illinois will have the chance to help grow the union and motivate workers to action with Teamsters Joint Council 25’s Organizers Boot Camp.

On November 7, all Teamster members, retirees, business agents, stewards and staff are encouraged to become volunteer organizers for the union. By knowing the importance of having union contracts, grievance procedures, seniority and other benefits, Boot Camp participants will learn how to help nonunion workers gain Teamster representation.

“There are no better representatives to invite others to join the union than each and every one of our Teamster brothers and sisters throughout Illinois,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “All members should take this opportunity to help the union organize on an even greater level, to rebuild America’s middle class and raise standards for working families.”

Joint Council 25 is hosting the Boot Camp in an effort by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to recruit and train 1,000 new member organizers to meet the challenges ahead. Millions of Americans want to form a union at work but are thwarted by employer intimidation and archaic election rules. While the Employee Free Choice Act will make it easier for workers to unionize, the Teamsters Union will be deluged with organizing requests as soon as new legislation passes.

“To meet the organizing challenges our union will face after passage of the Employee Free Choice Act, the Teamsters will be engaged in national campaigns that will require committed local efforts,” said Coli. “Without a mighty army of Teamster member organizers, we’re not going to get it done.”

Members who volunteer for Boot Camp will cover the basics of what they’ll be asked to do as organizers and will participate in an ongoing campaign. Joint Council 25’s Boot Camp will be held at the Local 705 Auditorium at Teamster City in Chicago.

To register, call your Teamster local today and tell them you’d like to participate in the Organizers Boot Camp on November 7.
